What is Infrared Thermometry?
This measuring technique uses the properties of infrared light waves to determine a target’s temperature. By employing an infrared detector, the sensor detects the amount of thermal energy emitted from a target as infrared light. There is a known relationship between the amount of infrared radiation emitted by an object and the object’s surface temperature. Exergen products detect only specific infrared wavelengths, so other sources of infrared light, such as the sun, will not interfere with the measurement. Exergen can calibrate the infrared temperature controllers to provide a linear output signal similar to a specific thermocouple type, over a specified temperature range.
